Job Description:

Position Summary: The Occupational Therapy Instructor / Program Director is responsible for the coordination of the Occupational Therapy Program (OTA) including accreditation, recruitment of students, and evaluation. This employee has the responsibility to administer a quality educational program. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Health Education.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages employees in the department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the Occupational Therapy Program
  • Mentors and coordinates with OTA faculty personnel to develop Occupational Therapy Assistant curriculum
  • Instruct/teach a pro-rated workload of lecture/lab skills as agreed upon with the Assistant Vice President of Health Education
  • Develops policies for student admission, promotion, and graduation
  • Counsels OTA students
  • Develops program publicity, recruitment of prospective students, and provides for representation of the program and university in the service area
  • Assists the Clinical Director with creating and maintaining written agreements between the College and the clinical facilities and the arrangement of physical facilities and clinical resources
  • Coordinates the OTA Program with the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education and with other concerned agencies as necessary; and ensures compliance with accreditation standards and guidelines
  • Prepares program accreditation reports as warranted
  • Maintains OTA Program data in partnership with the Institutional Researcher, as warranted;
  • Prepares and administers the OTA Program budget in accordance with ENMU-R policies;
  • Provides input to the Assistant Vice President of Health Education regarding the program. Marginal Functions:
    • Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The employee must possess the ability to develop, implement and evaluate programs; to develop student policies; to promote and represent program and recruit students; to formulate agreements between academic and clinical facilities; to coordinate program with associations and agencies; to maintain program data; and to develop and oversee budget. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills are required. Knowledge of state, federal, professional and other accrediting agency regulations and guidelines is required. Requirements:POSITION REQUIREMENTS

      Education :Certified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant who is licensed in the state of New Mexico or eligible for licensure.Master's degree required and awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). The master's degree is not limited to a master's degree in occupational therapy.

      Experience:
      Minimum of 5 years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy. This experience must include
      • Clinical practice as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant;
      • Administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting;
      • Understanding of and experience with occupational therapy assistants; and at least 1 year of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level.
      • Prior post-secondary teaching experience preferred.             Paid Time Off :Leave accrual rates are determined by employee class (At-Will/Professional & Faculty - exempt or Support - non-exempt) and years of employment. See below for specific accruals for each employee class.As per policies and procedures Adjuncts and Temporary employees are not eligible to accrue leave.
            Faculty Paid Time Off
            • Medical leave is accrued 48 hours in the Fall and 48 hours in the Spring.
            • Personal Leave - Five personal work days each academic year and two work days during the summer. Only regular faculty will be eligible for personal leave. Personal leave will not accumulate from academic year to academic year. Support Paid Time Off
              • During the first year of service, full time non-exempt (hourly) employees accrue 7 hours of annual leave and 7 hours of medical leave per month.
              • The second year of service, full time non-exempt employees accrue 10 hours of annual leave and 10 hours of medical leave per month.
              • The third and subsequent years of service, full time non-exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month.
              • Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave.
