Job Description Job Description Job Summary Provide advanced
practice nursing care specializing in behavioral health for
patients across the lifespan in an ambulatory clinic and/or
hospital setting. Responsibilities include psychiatric evaluation,
diagnosis, medication management, therapeutic intervention, and
coordination of care with the interdisciplinary team. The NP/PMHNP
plays a key role in improving access to behavioral health services
and ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. Essential Job
Responsibilities Promote the mission, vision, and values of the
organization Conduct psychiatric and behavioral health evaluations
for new and established patients Diagnose and manage mental health
conditions such as depression, anxiety, substance use disorders,
psychosis, and mood disorders Prescribe, monitor, and adjust
psychiatric medications in accordance with evidence-based practice
and state/federal guidelines Provide brief therapeutic
interventions and supportive counseling as appropriate Collaborate
with physicians, social workers, therapists, and nursing staff to
develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans Educate
patients and families regarding psychiatric diagnoses, treatment
options, and medication management Ensure continuity of care by
coordinating referrals to specialty providers and community
resources Document all patient encounters in the electronic health
record in a timely and accurate manner Participate in case
conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
Maintain licensure, certifications, and continuing education
requirements in accordance with state regulations Demonstrate
professionalism, empathy, and cultural sensitivity in all patient
and staff interactions Serve as a resource for staff education on
behavioral health topics and evidence-based practices Provide
crisis intervention and support in urgent or emergent psychiatric

Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program
Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state of New Mexico (or
eligibility for licensure) Certification as a Psychiatric Mental
Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) preferred, or NP with documented
behavioral health training and experience Current DEA registration
with authority to prescribe controlled substances BLS certification
required; ACLS preferred Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical
experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings strongly
preferred Professional Requirements Adhere to dress code,
appearance is neat and clean. Maintain patient confidentiality at
all times. Report to work on time and as scheduled. Wear
identification while on duty. Maintain regulatory requirements,
including all state, federal and local regulations. Represent the
organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding
ethical business practices. Communicate the mission, ethics and
goals of the organization. Participate in performance improvement
and continuous quality improvement activities. Participate in
committees, CQI and other meetings as appropriate and required.
Ensure compliance with policies and procedures regarding clinic
operations, fire, safety, and infection control. Knowledge, Skills,

skills Strong assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills in
mental health care Excellent communication, teamwork, and
patient-centered care skills Ability to determine appropriate
course of action in more complex situations Ability to work
independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and
maintain a positive attitude while collaborating within an
interdisciplinary team Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous
responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work Ability to
maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal
information Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in
a timely manner Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and
in writing Ability to handle difficult situations involving
patients, staff, or others in a professional manner Physical
Requirements and Environmental Conditions Working irregular hours
including call hours Physically demanding, high-stress environment
Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases,
chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions Pushing and pulling
heavy objects Full range of body motion including handling and
lifting patients Position requires light to moderate work with 50
pounds maximum weight to lift and carry. Position requires
reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or
fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing. Ability to work in
varying degrees of temperature (heater or air conditioned). Ability
to walk, stand or be on feet approximately 8 hours per day. Ability
to sit for 2-4 hours per day.
