Job Description:

Basic Duties: Effectively applies mental health expertise and clinical skills in providing Mental Health Services to inmates or clients resulting in an optimal level of care and significant achievements in therapeutic outcomes. Essential Job Duties: Conducts intakes, evaluations, and /or assessments for inmates referred by Security, Healthcare staff, and other Community sources. Conducts evaluations to assess the treatment needs of inmates that request or desire mental health services within the jail setting. Identifies mental health symptoms, treatment needs, and makes appropriate recommendations to the healthcare unit and security staff regarding the direction or required level of care. Recommends special housing or special watch and/or observations to security based on clinical findings. Makes a referral to nursing services based on reported symptoms by the inmate. Recommends medication evaluations to the MD when necessary. Coordinates closely with the Prescriber or Psychiatrist to ensure that inmates requiring evaluation or re-evaluation for medication are seen in a timely manner and the Prescriber is aware of any information pertinent to the inmate's clinical condition. Assists in the management of medications and is able to identify when an inmate is at risk due to side effects. Recommends and conducts other non-pharmacological treatments such as Group or individual therapy, when appropriate. Provides consultation to security and healthcare staff regarding inmate's behavior, safety concerns or other mental health concerns. Identifies and conducts other essential treatment services such as, psychoeducational groups, art therapy, pre-release counseling and other transitional groups, when appropriate or when applicable. Is able to provide linkage and/or discharge planning services when necessary or when appropriate or applicable. Provides mental health crisis intervention for the entire facility. Provides suicide intervention and management of suicidal and high-risk inmates. Provides clinical supervision for inmates or patients on his/her caseload. Provides treatment plans for inmates on his/her caseload with regular updates when needed. When applicable, participates in the treatment programming and planning discussion of problem cases, follow up and monitoring of medication, and general psychiatric input. Attends regular treatment team multidisciplinary meetings, classification meetings, or other required administrative meetings. Participates in CQI and / or QA studies and group sessions. Monitors the clinical condition and treatment needs of special inmate population (e.g. Guilty but Mentally Ill or inmates receiving anti-psychotic medication) as determined necessary by institution or agency directive or policy. Provides treatment services (such as group therapy) in all areas of the jail including, Special Housing Units and the General Population of the jail. Works effectively with all staff including security, healthcare and administrative staff. Provides on-call services when not on-site. Provides staff training in relevant mental health issues such as signs and symptoms of mental illness, management of mentally ill inmates, crisis intervention and related topics. Documents services and encounters appropriately and accurately according to facility and company policies. Maintains required documentation throughout all encounters, provides accessibility of notes for staff by following filing policies, and ensures transfer of information by producing organized and legible notes. When applicable, initiates involuntary hospitalization for those inmates who need to be transferred to outside Mental Health facilities. Generates appropriate paperwork relevant to the hospitalization. Provides services in compliance with Facility and CorrHealth Mental Health Policies and Procedures. Provides services in compliance with Facility and CorrHealth Safety Policies and Procedures. Security Requirements: Must obtain and maintain security clearance with the Assigned Jail Facility. Must pass background investigation conducted by the Company and/ or Facility as a requisite for initial and/or continued employment. May be required to undergo a urinalysis or blood test if there is reasonable suspicion to believe that employee is under the influence of or using controlled substances or marijuana and shall be subject to random drug testing. Must undergo Security training and orientation on Facility Safety Policies and Procedures. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required: Must have the ability to effectively perform duties, responsibilities and expectations as set forth by CorrHealth and the Assigned Facility including but not limited to: Ability to abide by all company and facility administrative and clinical directives as described above. Ability to produce timely, accurate, organized, and legible clinical notes of encounters and other relevant reports and logs. When applicable timely submission of required clinical statistics to the Health Services Administrator, or Mental Health Supervisor. Attendance, Punctuality, Reliability and timeliness when reporting to scheduled shifts, checking in and out of ADP, as well as, timely and accurate submissions of timesheets. Professional conduct as shown by giving timely notice to Supervisor or his/her designee when absent and/ or obtaining preapproval for PTO, Vacation, Sick Time, Overtime, and other unavoidable absences. Ability to listen to constructive feedback regarding performance, applying feedback and immediately showing outcomes that match company expectations. Ability to foster a positive attitude towards the company and the facility, foster teamwork and communication, as well as, promote relationship building with all Healthcare Unit and Security Staff. Ability to apply QI outcome studies for the purpose of strengthening and creating a more efficient mental health program. Ability to be cognizant of the Jail and Inmate environment by consistently showing good judgment and decision making. Ability to pay attention to safety and precautionary measures at all times. Ability to uphold certain corporate principles of practice including but not limited to quality of care; cost control without minimizing standard of care; utilization management of medications, supplies, etc., consistency and continuity of care via comprehensive medical / mental health approach to treatment. Ability to maintain patient Confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. Physical requirements: Include, but not limited to: Standing Sitting Frequent walking throughout a large site Walking up and down several flights of stairs Lifting objects less than 20 pounds Carrying objects less than 20 pounds Minimum Education/Experience Requirements: Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology or Related Field: MA Clinical Psych, MA Counseling, MA Clinical Social Work. Must be Licensed in the State of Practice: LCPC, LPC, LCSW. LMSW, LMHC 2-5 years post-degree (and licensure) clinical experience required. Correctional mental health experience is preferred. Working Conditions: Correctional Facility/ Jail/ Security Atmosphere; Low, Medium or High level of Security Other: Must comply with all current and future State, Federal, and Local laws and Regulations, Court Orders, Department Rules, Administrative Directives, Institutional Directives, American Correctional Association (ACA), National Commission of Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC), NMAC Standards. Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: 3 - 5 years Salary: $30+ Hourly
